Disney is set to launch the world's first official Encanto musical alongside a brand-new Frozen dining experience and a slate of other attractions, with the entire program scheduled to open in December 2027. The announcement positions the company's animated musical properties at the center of its live entertainment strategy for that winter season.

The Encanto stage production will be the first authorized musical adaptation of the 2021 film, which introduced audiences to the Madrigal family and their magical home in the mountains of Colombia. Disney has not yet confirmed a venue or creative team for the show, but the company described the project as a flagship addition to its live offerings.

A Film Built for the Stage

Encanto arrived in theaters on November 24, 2021, directed by Byron Howard, and runs 102 minutes. It blends animation with comedy, family drama, and fantasy, and holds a 7.6 out of 10 rating on TMDb. The story follows the Madrigals, an extraordinary family living hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Every child in the family has been blessed by the Encanto's magic - every child except one, Mirabel. When she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family's last hope.

The voice cast includes Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel, María Cecilia Botero as Abuela Alma, John Leguizamo as Bruno, Mauro Castillo as Félix, Jess Darrow as Luisa, Angie Cepeda as Julieta, Carolina Gaitán as Pepa, and Diane Guerrero as Isabela. The film's music became a cultural phenomenon in its own right, which likely explains why Disney sees a stage version as a natural extension of the property.

Frozen Family Feast Joins the Lineup

Disney also unveiled an all-new Frozen family feast, a dining concept that will bring the world of Anna, Elsa, and their companions to the table. Few details were released about the menu, location, or whether characters will appear in person, but the company framed the experience as a family-oriented complement to the Encanto musical. The two offerings will share a December 2027 launch window, suggesting Disney intends to market them as a paired destination for visitors during the holiday period.

A Broader Winter Push

The company teased that additional experiences are part of the same rollout, though it did not specify what those might include. The timing places the debut roughly six years after Encanto first hit theaters - a gap that has allowed the film to build a devoted following through streaming and merchandise. Disney has increasingly leaned on its animated catalog to fuel in-person attractions, and the two new projects follow that pattern.

For now, fans have a date to circle rather than a full picture. Casting, ticket details, and the precise format of the Encanto musical remain under wraps, and Disney has not said whether the production will be a limited engagement or an open-ended run. Similarly, the Frozen feast lacks a confirmed setting.

What is clear is the scale of the bet. Encanto carries a large ensemble of characters and a soundtrack that audiences already know by heart, giving a stage adaptation built-in recognition. The Frozen dining concept draws on an even older and broader fan base. Together they represent Disney's plan to turn two of its most valuable animated titles into live, in-person experiences beginning in December 2027.

Additional announcements about the full slate are expected as the launch date approaches.
